A Sign of Spring?

I'm sitting here with a rag around my ears, wool socks, shoes, long underwear, jeans, a thermal top, a jacket, a warm rice-bag on my tummy and a heating pad across my knees, drinking a hot mug of coffee (and please don't stop and allow your mind to make a mental picture - just rush right through to the next thought!) and I'm freezing. Freezing.
But I just read an email that gave me some hope that this hideous deepfreeze of a season won't last always: The subject lines was "We've Got EGGS!!"
The organic, free range chickens down the road in Sidney are beginning to lay again. Chickens don't lay many eggs during the short days of winter. Or the long nights, either, for that matter. So, although the progress toward spring is almost imperceptible to me, what with overcast skies, icy rain, snow and bone-chilling winds . . . we must be getting closer. The chickens can feel it. They are laying eggs!
I've ordered a dozen. I can't wait. I'm going to hard boil one (Perfectly. It's the one thing I know how to do in the kitchen.) and when I bite into it, it's going to taste like spring.
